Two state champion Arlington Storm Black baseball teams advanced to their Southeast Regional tournaments by first winning their state tournaments.
In Varina, Va., the Storm 10-Black team finished with a 2-2 record when the all-star squad was eliminated in the semifinal playoff round by a 3-1 score to the runner-up Cape American All-Stars of Florida. Its other loss came in pool play by a 7-5 score to champion Julington Creek of Florida.
The wins for the 10-under Storm were by 7-1 and 12-7 scores.
In Statesville, NC, Storm 9-Black finished 1-2 in the region, finishing 1-1 in pool play, then losing by one run, 5-4 to New Kent in 11 innings, in their only playoff contest. Arlington's win was by a 9-1 score, with the loss a 6-2 final, both in pool-play action.
The Peachtree All-Stars of Virginia won the 9-under region title. Arlington defeated Peachtree in the state-tourney final. The teams did not meet in the region competition.
The players in the region competition for the Storm 10-Black were Liam Aughavin, Preston Busby, Jack Guthrie, William Hill, William Hollister, Brody Palmer, A.J. Peters, Alex Pollack, Hunter Pratt, Franco Rizzolo, Maniai Saruultugs and Grayson Sinder. Billy Hollister was the manager.
In Arlington's two region wins, Aughavin, Busby, Peters, Rizzolo, Palmer, Guthrie, Saruultugs and Hollister were among those getting key hits. Busby had three hits in one of those wins. Busby and Palmer were the winning pitchers. Arlington rallied from 5-1 and 7-4 deficits in the 12-7 win. In the loss to Cape American, Arlington outhit its opponent, 6-2.
For manager Brian Churney, the Storm 9-Black players in the region tournament were Kyle Williamson, William Healy, Nathan Churney, Toby Lin, Reese Myers, Mateo Flores, Reed Kennerly, Luke Pascarella, Sawyer Tallent, Bruce Calvin, James Dickson and Logan Mikoy.
In the team's 9-1 win, Flores, Healy and Kennerly each had three hits, with Nathan Churney having two and winning pitcher Luke Pascarella added one hit with two RBI. Pascarella pitched five innings to get the win. In the 6-2 loss, Kennerly had two hits, as did Lin in the 5-4 loss.
